Karl Graf

Karl Graf (*1934) presents the theological concepts of the cantatas in the introductory workshops, together with Rudolf Lutz who shows how these are interpreted musically. Karl Graf grew up at the parsonage in Pfyn in the canton of Thurgau. He went to school in Frauenfeld where he earned his school-leaving diploma with a focus on Greek and Latin. After studying theology in Zurich and Göttingen, Karl Graf was pastor in Stein in Appenzellerland. In the year 1966, he was called to a position at the St. Laurenzen church in St.Gallen, where he remained until 1993.

In St. Laurenzen, Karl Graf held various church offices alongside his post as county pastor, and it was there that the intense collaboration in theology and music with church organist Rudolf Lutz originated. From 1993 until 1999 he was president of the canton of St. Gallen's church council of the reformed church of Switzerland; previously, he had served on the council as a voluntary member. Karl Graf is married and the father of four adult children.
