In 2006, the J.S. Bach Foundation began performing the entire vocal oeuvre of J.S. Bach, with all concerts held in the picturesque canton of Appenzell. With a cantata concert generally held once a month, it is expected that our cultural endeavour will be concluded in 2030. We upload the concerts to our streaming platform www.bach-streaming.ch to stream or download as an MP3, and we offer concert recordings on DVD and CD. The biennial festival “Appenzeller Bachtage” took place for the first time in 2014: this new cultural project is further evidence of the Foundation’s undertaking to foster cultural life in Eastern Switzerland – while capturing the attention of the rest of the world.
Our demanding concert schedule is made possible by the significant financial support of private individuals (Foundation fellows, patrons, friends) who contribute in large and small, and who share our great passion for the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. In addition to helping us meet our financial requirements, we believe every donation is a confirmation that our musical endeavour occupies an important place in the cultural life of the region – and beyond.
